"Ligeia"

by Edgar Allen Poe

Adapted for radio by D. Chapelle

Play Synopsis

The story begins with a narrator, who tells us about Ligeia, his love for her, her beauty and her family history. They become married and after a long period of married bliss, Ligeia dies. The narrator leaves for England, where he moves into an old abbey. Having inherited Ligeia's fortune, he's become quite rich and soon takes a new wife, Lady Rowena Trevanion, of Tremaine. After a short while, she also perishes and becomes transformed into Ligeia, or at least that is what the opium-induced mind of the narrator implies.

Cast Requirements:

One of the interesting things about doing radio drama is that you don’t have to look the part to perform the part. A short guy can play a basketball player or a sweet little girl can play a cranky old woman or a teenager can play a senior citizen. Case in point is an actor named Casey Kasem. He started playing Shaggy in the Scooby-Doo cartoons when he was thirty-seven years old and kept at it until he was seventy-seven. It also means you can use as few or as many actors as you’d like. If you have any questions about how any of this works drop me a line at [email protected]
