"Hyde, Dr. Jekyll, Hyde"

By D. Chapelle

An Excerpt:

JON: (Begins work with the chemicals.) Science waits for no man.

IVY: Or woman?

JON: I'm really very busy, miss.

IVY: Goodall. I'm Ivy Goodall.

JON: (Working.) And I am still very busy. (Ivy gets very close to observe.) Would you mind taking a step back?

IVY: I'm very comfortable here.

JON: You'll think differently if these chemicals explode.

IVY: (Leaping back.) Is this far enough?

JON: It will do.

IVY: So what exactly are you doing?

JON: I am working with Disaccharides and Rutaceae Citris Limon. When combining the Rutaceae Citris Limon with two parts of Hydrogen and one part of Oxygen the Disaccharides will break down into two separate molecules of mono saccharide hexose and ... and with luck the C6-H8-O7 will have the desired effect.

IVY: What would happen if it's not the desired effect?

JON: I'd rather not think about that. (He pours the concoction into a smaller glass.)

IVY: Are you sure I'm standing back far enough?

JON: Very sure. Now ... quiet. Two more tests. (He takes out a small test strip and carefully dips it into the glass holding the formula.) Yes, the acidity is perfect but ... but how does it taste?

IVY: How does it taste?

JON: Bottoms up. (He toasts Ivy and then downs the contents of the glass.)

IVY: Stop! Oh gracious and goodness what have you done? How much time do you have? Is there an antidote? Are you in pain?

JON: I'm fine, and the experiment is a success. (He pours another glass from the larger beaker.) Would you like a glass of lemonade?

IVY: Lemonade!!! You were making lemonade?
