An Excerpt:

GIOVANNA: Yes, my Prince.
PROSPERO: There shall be no thought or mention of the cursed Red Death.
GIOVANNA: Prospero, that may not be possible.
PROSPERO: It shall be so because I say it shall be so! Anyone who wishes to disagree with me shall be hanged for my amusement. Now then, my darling, you have duties and I suggest you attend to them.
GIOVANNA: As you wish, my Prince.
(She curtsies to Prospero and exits. Eerie music comes up as the lights cross fade to The Stranger standing down stage right.)
STRANGER: The Princess Giovanna had good cause to fear the black room of the Imperial Suite. The suite was a grand ball room but it was unlike any ballroom that has ever been seen.
REVELER #1: The suite was divided into seven separate rooms by Prince Prospero’s love of the bizarre. The rooms were separated by thick long curtains through which very little sound penetrated.
ANTONIO: To the right and left, in the middle of each wall in each room were narrow Gothic windows.
GIOVANNA: Windows of stained glass whose color was in harmony with the principal color of the chamber.
REVELER #1: At the eastern edge was a room whose décor and windows were vivid blue. (The light on the Reveler becomes blue.) The light coming from this window was such that everyone and everything which entered it took on a blue hue. (Blue light out.)
REVELER #2: (The light on the Reveler becomes purple.) The second chamber was purple in its ornaments, tapestries, draperies, and here the glass panes were purple. (Purple light out.)
ANTONNIO: (The light on the Reveler becomes green.) The third room was green throughout, and so were the windows. (Green light out.)
GIOVANNA: (The light on the Reveler becomes orange.) The fourth was furnished and lit in orange. (Orange light out.)
REVELER #1: (The light on the Reveler becomes white.) The fifth with white. (White light out.)
REVELER #2: (The light on the Reveler becomes violet.) The sixth was violet. (Violet light out.)
