"The Tell - Tale Heart"

by Edgar allen Poe

Adaptation for radio by D. Chapelle

An Excerpt:

ANA: Now this is the point you fancy me mad. The insane know nothing. But you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded ... with what caution ... with what foresight ... with what guile and cunning I went to work! I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him.
(Obscura music up and fade out. Birds are signing in the distance.)
LARSEN: Ana … Ana!
(Footsteps.)
ANA: Yes Mr. Larsen.
LARSEN: Ana, I need you.
ANA: Is there a problem Mr. Larsen?
LARSEN: Could you please help me out to the garden?
ANA: Is something wrong with the sunroom?
LARSEN: No … no … But the morning is too beautiful to spend it inside. Come, dear girl, help me outside.
ANA: Perhaps later.
LARSEN: (Impish.) Perhaps now?
ANA: There is too much of a chill to the morning air, sir. You would do better to enjoy the morning here.
LARSEN: (Pouting.) You are the most gentle of wardens, Ana.
ANA: (Laughing.) Mr. Larsen … dear, dear Mr. Larsen, I will offer you a compromise. If you promise to be patient I shall promise to leave you for a moment and return with some lovely tea.
LARSEN: And cookies?
ANA: You are a scamp! Well, fine then. Tea and cookies it shall be, and then we shall sit in the garden.
LARSEN: And what shall we do in the garden?
ANA: We listen to the singing birds and have a glorious chat about everything and nothing at all.
LARSEN: This is a compromise I do believe I may be able to live with.
