Jake notices that the ladies appear to be
acting strangely. He tells them that if he didn't know better, he would swear that they have been
drinking. Hazel and Prudence tell him that all they have had to drink is some special sarsparilla.
Sadie and Jake both realize that what they have been drinking is really whiskey. He continues to study their court order.
Script Excerpt:
Jake. Ladies, this
court order is worthless. Judge Stoneheart's jurisdiction is only in Drygulch county, not here in Adobe county.
Prudence. Imagine that!
Hazel. Really? Well, we'll just have to find a Judge in this county. Do you know where he is, by any chance?
Prudence. And more importantly, is he cute? (They both giggle loudly.)
Jake. Why don't you two come on over to my office and sleep it off? Then you can look for a nice Judge in this county.
Hazel. All right. Wait a minute! There isn't any judge in this county!
Prudence. There isn't any judge in this county? Where'd he go?
Jake. Come along ladies.
(Jake, Hazel and Prudence exit.)
Sadie and Sally are relieved to learn that the court
order is not valid. They begin to get the saloon ready for the evening when Dirk Makes an appearance. He has
come to make his final offer to buy the saloon. The ladies refuse once more to sell the saloon. Dirk becomes threatening again.
Script Excerpt:
Sadie. You'd better leave
before Clint comes in and finds you bothering us again.
Dirk. I'm not afraid of Cactus, or anybody else for that matter. I just came in to make you a final offer for this place.
Sadie. I'm glad to hear it's your final offer.
Dirk. And?
Sadie. I know you are going to find this hard to believe, but the answer is not only no, but heck no. Now get out.
Dirk. And if I refuse?
(Sally pulls shotgun up from behind the bar and levels it at Dirk.)
Sally. Then it's time to meet mister twelve gauge.
Dirk. You don't think that you can frighten me with that gun. You don't even know how to shoot.
Sally. Well, now is a good time to learn and I'm a fast learner!
(Dirk starts to move towards Sally. Sally pulls the trigger, but the gun is on safety. While she tries to get it to
work, Dirk snatches it away from her and clicks the safety off.)
Dirk. Give me that. Now then. Since you won't let me pay for the place, I'll just have to take it for free. Sign
this! And sign it fast if you know what's good for you!
Sadie. What's this?
Dirk. It's a quit-claim deed to this place giving me, Dirk Devious, sole possession of this property. Now sign!
Sally. Don't do it, Sadie!
Sadie. And if I refuse?
Dirk. Then I'll do what all villains do in these situations. I'll shoot your sister. Several times. In painful places.
Sadie and Sally. You wouldn't!
Dirk. I will. Now sign! Or else Sally meets mister twelve gauge!
It doesn't look good for Sadie and Sally. Dirk
means business and is determined to get the saloon from them. Sadie has no choice but to sign over the deed or
Sally faces certain death. Can no one save them?
